PROTECT YOUR SKIN: DRUGSTORE SUNSCREENS

Going to the beach? Working outdoors? Drinking on the patio?  Put on sunscreen!

Sunscreen is a vital skincare product that protects your skin from harmful sun rays!  It helps prevents your skin from aging and the damage that is caused by sun exposure.  Here I will be talking about what to look for when buying sunscreens and my drugstore finds!

Before buying a sunscreen product, you must check the ingredients!

Good Ingredients:  Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Mexoryl (Drometrizole Trisiloxane)

Bad Ingredients:  Oxybenzone, Vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate)

The following are products I found with at least one of the "good ingredients".

Aveeno's Sensitive Skin:
titanium dioxide, zinc oxide

This sunscreen is lightweight and sinks into the skin fast and dry!  Not oily like most sunscreens.  Baby sunscreens are also effective on an adult's skin so don't hesitate to buy it!

L'Oreal Paris Ombrelle Face:
titanium dioxide, mexoryl

Mexoryl make sunscreens have a stickier consistency and I also find this product to leave a white film on my medium skin tone.  However, I will use this on the beach with no makeup for its great protection.

Neutrogena Pure&Free Sensitive:
titanium dioxide, zinc oxide
I am generally not a fan of Neutrogena's products and did not purchase this one.  However, the reviews on this product and their baby sunscreen products have positive feedback!  Please comment below if you have any comments on this product!

SPF is a measure of how long the sunscreen is meant to protect your skin for, if the correct amount is applied.  A shot glass filled with sunscreen should cover your body from head to toe!  Generally, you multiply the SPF by 10 minutes to determine the amount of time.  For example, a SPF of 30 implies that you will be protected for about 300 minutes.  I recommend a SPF of 15-20 for daily use and a SPF of at least 30 for days with more sun exposure.

Check if the sunscreen has a broad spectrum which protects you from both UVA and UVB rays!

Follow these guidelines to help you find an effective sunscreen! :)
